Gwabi River Lodge has a fleet of boats that can be hired with a guide to take you on a cruise down the Kafue and Zambezi Rivers.

Our Activities :

Fishing : Fishing on the Zambezi river is one of the most popular activities at Gwabi River Lodge. Headed up by an experienced member of our team, Gwabi guests have the option to hire one of our boats and try their hand – or rod – at some fishing on the River. Tiger fishing on the Lower Zambezi is one of the best in the country.

Taylors's Tiger Fishing Tours : This fishing tour is great for those that enjoy the excitement of Tiger fishing. Tiger fish range in size from 3 to 6kgs, however some have caught bigger. A perfect experience for those that enjoy spending time on the water.

Game Drive : To complement your Lower Zambezi Safari experience, book to enjoy a full day adventure to the Lower Zambezi National Park. Depart from Gwabi at 5:30am and travel the 70km to the park gate, taking in the spectacular scenery of the Lower Zambezi as you go. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park and return to Gwabi early evening. Alternatively, guests can travel down the river by boat taking in what the mighty Zambezi has to offer and then meet the game drive vehicle at the park gate and carry on from there.

River Safari : Whether you would like to enjoy a sunset cruise to toast to the end of the day or a full day adventure to take in all that the river has to offer, we will ensure you have an unforgettable experience. Add to Your experience on the river and enjoy a braai or picnic lunch on one of the sandbanks that dot the Zambezi River.

Canoe safaris : Our canoe safaris are u unique way to take in the beutifull wildlife and surrounds of the mighty Zambezi river. Guests can enjoy from one to three days (or longer on request) making their way down river with our trained guides. You can also combine this with a game drive through the park. Wild camping is as rustic as it gets but an exciting adventure to always remember, spend your evenings around a campfire reminiscing on the days' sightings.

Baobab Forest & Bat CaveJoin us on a half day excursion through the neighbouring area which is home to an abundance of baobabs, an iconic tree in Africa. For active guests, take a moderate hike to a cave in the mountains that is home to an array of bats. Explore inside and enjoy the elevated views over the valley.

Birding : For those with an interest in birds, all our activities offer the opportunity to spot one of the 378 bird species in the Lower Zambezi Valley – Saddle billed Stork, White-fronted bee-eater, Western-banded Snake eagle, Eastern Nicator and the African Skimmer to name a few. For those avid birders, who are in search of something special, we offer guided birding walks or boat tours at select times of the year. Sought after species during our green season include the African Pitta, Livingstone's flycatcher and African broadbill. We also welcome back the migratory birds such as the Broad-billed Roller, Collared Pratincole and Southern Carmine Bee-eater.

Sandbank PicnicSpend the day on a beautiful sandbank on the Zambezi River. Don't worry, before getting off the boat, our staff will check carefully for hippo and crocodiles and they will continue to do so for the duration of the day. Then, while you relax, with maybe an ice cold gin and tonic, the staff will get to work preparing your lunch. Generally the food will be cooked on a braai (the Afrikaans name for a bbq/grill). There are vegetarian and vegan options, please let us know in advance. This can be done as a stand-alone "activity" or can be combined with a full or half day boating.

The River Girl Live-Aboard : One of our newest activities on offer. Travel up the mighty Zambezi and spend your nights under the stars. A unique way to take in the beautiful wildlife and surrounds of the Mighty Zambezi River and an exciting adventure you'll always remember. Ideally suited for 4 to 6 people.

Nature Walk & Community Visit : Spend a few hours exploring the Gwabi bush with one of our guides who will teach you about the local flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for tracks in the sand and birdlife in the trees above you. Nearby is the Local Farao Community who will warmly welcome you and share their local culture.
